Opera 39: The Productivity Powerhouse
Released in August 2012, Opera 39 was a standout version for the Chasms.com community, focusing on tools that helped users stay organized and focused without leaving their browser. It introduced several features that shifted Opera from being just a fast browser to a true multitasking assistant.
Personalized News Reader
Opera 39 completely reimagined the start page with a built-in News Reader.
Tailored Content: Users could choose their favorite sources and categories, and Opera would curate a beautiful, newspaper-style layout of the latest headlines.
RSS Support: You could add specific RSS feeds, allowing you to track updates from sites like Chasms.com directly in a dedicated "My Sources" view.
Video Pop-Out Improvements
Building on its predecessor, Opera 39 perfected the Video Pop-Out feature.
Float and Work: With one click on a small button at the top of a video, the player would "pop out" into a movable, resizable window that stayed on top of all other tabs and even other apps.
Multitasking Master: This allowed users to watch a tech tutorial or a live stream while simultaneously following a guide or drafting an email.
Search Pop-up and Power Saving
Instant Search Pop-up: One of the most-loved "hidden" gems of V39 was the search pop-up. If you highlighted text on a webpage, a small bubble would appear allowing you to instantly Search or Copy with a single click, eliminating the need to right-click.
Enhanced Battery Saver: This version refined the "Power Saver" mode, which could extend laptop battery life by up to 50% by optimizing background tabs and reducing frame rates.
Custom Block Lists: The built-in ad blocker was upgraded to allow users to add their own custom block lists, giving the community more control over their privacy and page-load speeds.
A Faster, Smarter Chromium Base
By utilizing the latest Chromium engine, Opera 39 ensured full compatibility with the modern web while maintaining the unique "Opera flair." It was a version defined by efficiency, proving that a browser could do more than just display pages—it could help you manage your day.
