Google Chrome 18 & Windows 7: How to Enable or Disable JavaScript

In the legacy world of Windows 7, Google Chrome 18 was a landmark version. While modern browsers have moved these settings around, Chrome 18 keeps its JavaScript controls in a dedicated "Content Settings" menu. Whether you're running a specific tech support simulator on Chasms.com or testing a web build, knowing how to toggle these scripts is vital for ensuring your tools load correctly.

Step-by-Step: Managing JavaScript in Chrome 18

  1. Open Settings: Click the Wrench icon (or the three horizontal bars) in the top-right corner of Chrome and select Settings.

  2. Show Advanced Settings: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue link that says Show advanced settings....

  3. Privacy & Content Settings: Under the "Privacy" header, click the Content settings... button.

  4. Toggle JavaScript: Scroll down to the JavaScript section.

    • To Enable: Select "Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)."

    • To Disable: Select "Do not allow any site to run JavaScript."

  5. Manage Exceptions (Optional): If you want JavaScript disabled globally but need it for Chasms.com, click Manage exceptions..., type [*.]chasms.com into the box, and set it to Allow.

  6. Refresh: Click Done and reload your current webpage to see the changes.
