Windows 8: How to Add & Edit Email Accounts
Managing your communication in Windows 8 can be done in two ways: using the modern, tile-based Mail App or the classic Control Panel (especially if you use Outlook). Even in 2026, keeping your email settings current is vital for security and ensuring your messages sync correctly across all your devices.
Method 1: Using the Windows 8 Mail App (The Tile Interface)
The Mail app is the built-in way to handle Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, and Exchange accounts.
Add an Account: Open the Mail tile from your Start Screen. Swipe from the right (or press Win + I) to open Settings, then select Accounts > Add an account.
Edit an Account: In the Mail app, open Settings > Accounts and click on the specific email address.
Adjust Sync Settings: Here, you can change your "Account Name," how often the app downloads new mail (e.g., "as items arrive" or "every 15 minutes"), and update your password if it has changed.
Method 2: Using the Control Panel (For Outlook Users)
If you use the desktop version of Outlook, you need to use the classic interface to edit server settings like IMAP or SMTP.
Press Windows Key + X and select Control Panel.
Search for the Mail icon and open it.
Click Email Accounts. Select your account and click Change.
Update Servers: This is where you manually enter incoming/outgoing server names and port numbers provided by your ISP.
