Windows 8: Finding the Network and Sharing Center

In Windows 8, Microsoft moved away from the traditional Start Menu, which made finding classic tools like the Network and Sharing Center feel like a scavenger hunt. Whether you need to set up a new connection, troubleshoot Wi-Fi, or change adapter settings, this hub is still the "brain" for your network configuration.

Here are the fastest ways to get there on a Windows 8 or 8.1 system:

Method 1: The Power User Shortcut (Fastest)

If you have a keyboard, this is the most direct route:

  1. Press Windows Key + X on your keyboard to open the Quick Access Menu.

  2. Select Control Panel from the list.

  3. Click on Network and Internet and then select Network and Sharing Center.

Method 2: The System Tray (Easiest)

If you are currently on your Desktop:

  1. Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen (the System Tray).

  2. Right-click on the Network/Wi-Fi icon.

  3. Select Open Network and Sharing Center from the pop-up menu.

Method 3: Using the Search Charm

For those who prefer the Windows 8 "Search" interface:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or move your mouse to the upper-right corner) to open the Charms Bar.

  2. Click Search and type Network and Sharing.

  3. Select the Network and Sharing Center icon that appears in the results.
