Enhanced AI Scam Detector (January 27, 2026): McAfee released a major upgrade to its Scam Detector that now includes Instant QR Code Scam Checks. It analyzes URLs hidden in QR codes (on menus, parking meters, etc.) and warns you before you open them. It also added smarter protection for DMs on apps like WhatsApp and Instagram.
McAfee Smart AI™ Hub (January 16, 2026): Launched as a central resource to help users navigate the "Scamiverse," this feature provides real-time alerts and educational tools specifically designed to combat AI-generated deepfakes and election-related disinformation.
Deepfake Detector for Copilot+ PCs (January 3, 2026): McAfee introduced specialized AI-powered deepfake detection that can identify if audio in a video has been synthetically generated. This was initially rolled out for select high-end AI PCs (like HP and Lenovo) to verify the authenticity of content in real-time.
Full-Service Personal Data Cleanup (Late 2025): While "scans" existed previously, the 2026 tier updates transitioned to "Full-Service" removal for Advanced and Ultimate users. McAfee now automatically sends and tracks data removal requests to hundreds of data broker sites on your behalf rather than just notifying you of the risk.
