  • 7. You might check for another program trying to access the same com port. See SEE EXAMPLE
  • 8. Change the modem software to a standard windows modem.
  • 9. Check for Winsock.dll (dated 7-11-95), Wsock32.dll, url.dll.(1 winsock.dll in C:/Windows and 1 in C:/Windows/System/) (1 wsock32.dll in C:/Windows/System/) (1 url.dll in C:/Windows/System/)
  • 10. Check for VFC in "Extra Settings", if there, change to S32=4. Tell member to go to "Control Panel", "Modems", "Properties", "Connection", "Advanced".

Thanks to http://www.open.org/bilbran/dun.htm for the suggestions below.

  • 13. Lower modem speed.
  • 14. In Dun properties, go to "General", "Server Types", then uncheck "Enable Software Compression".
  • 15. Do a "ctrl-alt-delete" and close "Rnaapp".
  • 16. Tell them to download "ISDN Accelerator Pack" and install that.
  • 17. If it's a USR modem, put "S12=0" in "Extra Settings". If not, put &F there.
  • 18. Get rid of everything that pertains to the DUN connection. Delete the shortcut on the desktop. In Dial Up Networking, delete the connectoid and make a new one. Next go to Start -> Find -> Files or folders, and do a search for any password list files by typing in pwl in the "named" box and clicking on Find now. We're looking for files with the extension .pwl. You may have one named username.pwl.  Username being your login name for your ISP. If so delete it by right-clicking on it and deleting it. Only that one.
  • 18. Suggest a "Scandisk" and "Defrag".
