Back of Modem - 1This setup is for a Fujitsu modem but most setups will be similar. Plug in your power cord to the back of the modem and into an electrical outlet. Next, your data line cable from the modem goes to the back of the computer into the Network Interface Card (NIC) or to your hub (see screenshots 3 and 4). The phone line cable in the back of the modem goes into the phone wall jack. (see screenshot 2).

Phone Wall Jack - 2The microfilter (circled in red) keeps the static from the phone line when you talk. Without it the hiss is very loud. This will go on the line to your phone. The other phone cord is the line that plugs into the back of your DSL modem. Make sure you use the correct one or it may not work.

Back of Computer - 3The data line, from the back of your modem (see screenshot 1), will plug into your network card in the back of your computer. Note: You can also plug the data line into a hub if you have multiple computers (see screenshot 4).

Hub - 4If you use a hub, set it up as shown. If you have an Uplink port on your hub, plug the cord coming from the data line port at the back of the modem into it. Next, plug your network cable into the back of the hub and from there into the network card (NIC) at the back of your computer.

Modem Lights - 5On the Fujitsu modem, there are three lights. If they are not all on, something is wrong. If you are having problems, the best thing that I've found to do is unplug the modem for about 30 seconds and plug it back it. Sometimes, restarting and/or running winipcfg helps.
